Thanks for the comment Suzanne. I agree we are 'good enough'. If we give things a go, instead of thinking about it more, talking about it more and just go from where we are we will most likely say to ourselves "why didn't I just do this sooner"? As we all know the more we do [actually do] the easier it becomes, the better we get, the more we learn. Happy 2012. Thanks for bringing up Brown's book - it's an excellent book, which I highly recommend.

Cutest little ducks, love and agree with the concept and would also add with a play on words not to wait til all our ducks are in order and lined up to get going. Inspired by Brené Brown’s video Power of Vulnerability and her book The Gifts of Imperfection, I often have a tendency to think that I need to be just a “little better or a lot better” before moving ahead on something especially if it’s new. “Good enough” is the operative word to move to action I say! My mantra for 2012. Don’t think, be like a duck and jump into the water now! Quack Quack!

Absolutely Matt. Love the “independent ducks”. Sometimes, it’s also fear that keeps people in the “must have all the ducks in the row first” stage. I’ve learned that if we can say ‘yes’ to what we want the ‘how’ will begin to take shape. One other point, asking for help and support puts you in a stronger position to move projects forward.

Good post Sherry,

I agree that planning is very important. Whenever planning a new project, I draft up a list of things that need to be done, then I focus on which action items can be done immediately.

I find that sometimes too much focus can go into planning and things don’t actually get done (or sometimes not even get started). It is important to remember that these “ducks” don’t stand still so your plan at the beginning of a project may go off course and into a few different directions. I find that projects that are planned in an extremely sequential manner often create more stress down the road due to bottlenecks and road blocks. Instead, if you plan your project in a way where you can have multiple tasks working independently then the “independent ducks” can keep the project moving forward without the stress of having all of your eggs in one basket (so to speak).

Excellent article Sherry! It’s amazing how people can let the words and opinions of others infect their decision making and self-esteem. Often people put more weight into those opinions of trusting their own conscience and what resonates within them!
